A high-level fact-finding committee was established by the Odisha government on Tuesday to look into the suicide of a Nepali student at KIIT University. The Principal Secretary of the Women & Child Development Department, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department, and the Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Higher Education Department are among the distinguished members of the committee.
“In light of the recent unfortunate incident relating to KIIT University, the Government of Odisha has taken immediate cognizance of the matter and taken steps to arrest security guards and suspension of erring officials involved. Reports of misconduct including the use of force against students by private individuals, are being investigated into, and those responsible, shall be held accountable as per the law. “read the letter.
The letter also stated that the Odisha government has launched an investigation into reports of misconduct, including the use of force, against students by private individuals. Those found responsible will face accountability as per the law. It is pertinent to mention that Prakriti, a B.Tech student of KIIT University, reportedly committed suicide on Sunday following a fight with her estranged boyfriend and the accused Advik Shrivastava, a student of B.Tech (Mechanical).
