Odisha’s economy size proxied by GSDP at current prices is estimated to be INR 9.5 lakh crores in 2024-25 which has increased by 10% from 8.6 lakh crores in 2023-24, according to the Odisha Economic Survey 2024-25 released by the Planning & Convergence Department ahead of the Annual Budget. The real economic growth is estimated at 7.2 per cent in 2024-25 which is higher than all India growth rate of 6.4 per cent, the Economic Survey has pointed out. All the sectors have shown robust growth in 2024-25 and the State is poised for rapid growth in the years ahead. Higher capital investment and investment intent received through Utkarsh Odisha would further increase growth rate in the State in future.
Prior to the Annual Budget, the Planning & Convergence Department issued the Odisha Economic Survey 2024-25, which estimates the size of the state’s economy, as measured by GSDP at current prices, to be INR 9.5 lakh crores in 2024-25, a 10% rise from 8.6 lakh crores in 2023-24. According to the Economic Survey, real economic growth is predicted to reach 7.2% in 2024–2025, which is higher than the 6.4% growth rate for all of India. In 2024–2025, all industries saw strong development, and the state is expected to grow quickly in the years to come. Future growth rates in the state would be further accelerated by increased capital investment and investment intent obtained through Utkarsh Odisha to 49.4 per cent in 2023- 24. It is higher than all India level which is 42%.
In 2024–2025, the agriculture and related sectors grew at a strong 3.3% rate, accounting for 19% of the Gross State Value Added (GSVA). On average, Odisha’s agricultural industry is expanding faster than India’s. Odisha’s agriculture sector grew at a rate of 7% over the past five years, compared to 4.1% throughout India. With an average growth rate (CAGR) of 5.2%, Odisha’s foodgrain production increased from 116.9 lakh metric tonnes (MT) in 2019–20 to a record high of 143 lakh MT in 2023–24.
