Odisha Panchayat Election: Women Attacked In Sundargarh

In a shocking incident, a Samiti member from Sundergarh for Odisha panchayat elections has been attacked. The woman hails from Gobindapur under Bonai block in Sundargarh district. The woman has received serious injuries and is currently treated in hospital. However her condition is critical.

The woman identified as Pushpa jena was attacked by three people while she was returning home after campaigning on Sunday. She has been admitted to hospital in a critical condition.

Sources said, Puspita was found lying in a critical condition near her house at Ghusura Patrapali and immediately rushed to Bonai hospital. Later, she was shifted to Rourkela Government Hospital after her health condition deteriorated. “Three persons came in a bike and attacked me. When I tried to save myself, one of them hit me from behind. I don’t know what exactly happened after that because I lost consciouness,” the victim alleged.

Meanwhile, Puspita’s husband Chinmaya Kumar Jena has termed the attack as an outcome of political rivalry. “I came to know that some assailants attacked my wife while she was returning after campaigning. I suspect political rivalry as the motive behind the assault,” Jena alleged.

My wife is contesting for samiti member from CPM and she has been receiving threats to withdraw her nomination, he alleged.
Police have launched an investigation into the matter.
