The 62nd Police Commemoration Day was observed at the State Police Headquarters in Cuttack, where Odisha DGP Abhay paid homage to all the Police Martyrs and Police Corona Warriors who laid down their lives in the line of duty. The DGP also conveyed deep condolences to the bereft family members of the martyred jawans.
According to the official reports, Odisha DGP informed that around 377 Policemen have lost their lives in the line of duty from 01.09.2020 to 31.08.2021, out of which 4 Police Martyrs are from Odisha. Similarly, 22 Police Corona Warriors from Odisha have their lives in the line of duty in between October 17, 2020 to October 16, 2020.
The Police Commemoration Day is being observed nationwide on this day (October 21) since 1959 to mark the martyrdom of 10 CRPF Jawans who sacrificed their lives in Ladakh for the sake of our motherland after fighting bravely with the Chinese soldiers then.
The report further added that the Police Commemoration Day this year has been dedicated to all ‘Corona Warriors’ from among the security personnel (including state police), who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of Covid-19 duty across the country.
According to the data published by the Central Government on July 26 this year, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) lost 127 personnel while 90 Border Security Force (BSF) troopers died due to the Covid-19 infection. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) lost 76, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) 20, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) 17, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) two and National Security Guard (NSG) lost one of its personnel.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid his respect and quoted in twitter- “On police Commemoration Day, I would like to acknowledge the outstanding efforts by our police forces in preserving law and order, and assisting others in times of need. I pay homage to all those police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty”.
