Odisha Records 2,483 SC-STs Atrocity Cases In Nine Months

Nityananda Gond, a Minister for ST & SC Development, Minorities, and Backward Classes Welfare, told the State Assembly on Friday that during the previous nine months, 2,483 cases of atrocities against members of the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities had been reported in different police stations throughout Odisha. In answer to a question posed by BJD MLA Sanjib Kumar Mallick, Minister Gond wrote that these charges were filed under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act between June 2024 and February 2025.

Gond informed the Assembly that cases of atrocities against SCs and STs are being investigated by officers of DSP rank. Additionally, the government provides compensation to victims after a joint investigation by the police and revenue department officials.
