Following the introduction of direct flights between Bhubaneswar and Dubai, Bangkok, and Singapore, the State Tourism industry witnessed a notable increase in the number of foreign visitors arriving. In response to a written inquiry from BJD MLA Bhupinder Singh, Tourism Minister Aswini Patra told the State Assembly today that whereas 2,269 international visitors entered the State in 2021, there were 22,121 in 2022—an increase of 874.92 percent over the previous year.
As of November 2023, 40,383 foreign visitors have increased the number of foreign footfall by 118.58%. According to the minister, the State has 358 officially designated tourist destinations. MLA Singh asked the administration if there was a plan to add any locations in his Narla, Kalahandi, constituency to the tourist map.
The Minister replied that the government has not received any proposal to include any other place of Narla in tourists map.
