Odisha: Severe Heatwave Alert For Next 4 To 5 Days

Odisha will experience severe heat eave conditions in the next 4 to 5 days. The reports have been sent by Bhubaneswar IMD. The Director General of India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mrutyunjay Mohapatra has predicted the continuance of heat wave in the State for the next five days.

Mohapatra said that maximum (day) temperature will rise by 1-2 degree Celsius in the interior areas of the State during the next five days while ruling out heatwave conditions in southern and coastal regions.

“As per our prediction, heatwave condition is currently prevailing in Odisha. The extreme weather condition is felt in some interior districts of the State. Heatwave will prevail in north and south interior districts of the State during the next five days from April 26 to April 30,” Mohapatra said.  “Heatwave implies that the temperature is 5 to 6 degree Celsius above the normal temperature. It is not bearable for people if adequate precautions not taken. Therefore, people should follow the guidelines taken by the State and central governments,” the IMD DG said.

However, he said in southern and coastal Odisha, there will be no heatwave condition.  “Thunderstorm and winds will be seen in isolated pockets of southern and coastal Odisha in the next five days. The weather condition will prevent rise in temperature,” the IMD DG added.
