During the Covid pandemic, many people have lost their lives while fighting the pandemic, and also many have sacrificed their own life so that to save someone else. For recognizing their sacrifice and hard work, Odisha Government has decided to construct a ‘COVID Warrior Memorial’ at the Biju Patnaik Park in Bhubaneswar.
As per the news report, the construction of the memorial was decided in a bid to pay respect to all those COVID-19 warriors who lost their lives while battling the Coronavirus virus and as a tribute, the state government will keep alive the memory of the excellent sacrifice made by the frontline workers.
PK Mohapatra, Additional chief secretary to the health and family welfare informed that the proposed memorial will be inaugurated on 15th August on the eve of Independence Day 2021. He stated that to keep the service and sacrifice in the memory of those frontline warriors the state government has decided to construct a COVID-19 Warrior Memorial.
He further stated that many people like doctors, health workers, teachers, police personnel, and sanitation workers have risked their own life while working as frontline workers during the pandemic. So their sacrifice and endless work will be honored and will be respected in form of this memorial.
The Works Department has been affirmed as the Nodal Department for construction of COVID Warrior Memorial and they will engage an architect to finalize the design and structure of the memorial. The design will be later be approved by the competent authority. The cost of the construction will be met out of the budgetary provisions of the Works Department.
As per Odisha DGP Abhay, around 48 police personnel have lost their lives in the Covid pandemic battle. The police personnel in the State have also donated the highest number of plasma units for the treatment of the critical COVID-19 patients.
