According to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s announcement on Saturday, the Odisha government has eliminated the contractual recruiting system with effect from today.

The CM announced, “All contractual staff will be regularised and a notification to this effect will be given out Monday,” when making the announcement.

“I’m happy to report that the State Cabinet has voted to permanently abolish the contractual method of hiring. Many states continue use the contractual recruitment system even if there are no formal hiring practises in place. However, the era of contractual hiring is over in Odisha “added Patnaik.

“I had been anticipating this time. The announcement will be made tomorrow. More than 57,000 workers will gain from this. The government would increase spending by about Rs. 1300 crore annually. The decision has brought in early Diwali for their family members,” the CM added.

Celebrations broke out among the members of the Odisha Contractual Employees Association shortly after the announcement as they praised the State government’s choice. Numerous contract workers rejoiced over the choice by setting off fireworks in front of the organisation office in Bhubaneswar.

The group members hailed the government’s compliance with their demands as a triumph, despite a delay.

“Naveen Patnaik, the chief minister, met with us two days ago and promised to do away with the contractual system. As his birthday is tomorrow, the CM has given us a significant gift “explained a contract worker.”Today is a really wonderful day for us. We give credit to Naveen Patnaik and Bijay Bhai (Bijay Malla, president of the contractual employees association). For all of us, today is a major day “said a different contract worker.

“On the occasion of his birthday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik made such an encouraging announcement. We are overjoyed about that. We are having a celebration, as seen by the dancing, popping of crackers, and music. Our joy was limitless “a third worker stated.”Contractual and regular employees continue to face discrimination in society. We are pleased that the contractual system has been eliminated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Our years of effort have now borne fruit “said a second worker.
