Self-styled Godman Surendra Mishra (Suru Baba), head of Trahi Achyuta Ashram, died at a private hospital.
According to the sources, Suru Baba was suffering from multiple ailments and underwent several treatments at the hospital for the past couple of days. He succumbed to death at the private hospital in the city on Sunday night.
The godman, along with two sons Trilochan and Biranchi, were arrested on 31st August 2015 as a complaint was filed against them by a person at Chhatrapur police station of having committed land fraud. To which the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of State Crime Branch had attached properties to the amount of 14.95 crores of his personal and his Trahi Achyuta Ashram spread over 20 acres of land which is located at Jhinti Sasan in Khurda district.

He was also arrested on the charges of blackmailing and sexual harassment of women, illegal possession of arms, and forcible possession of private lands. After which, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch seized a tremendous amount of cash and properties.

But later, the Supreme Court granted bail for the land fraud case, and he was released in December 2017. As per the sources, he will be cremated in his ashram’s backyard at Jhinti Sasan in the Khurda district.
