OLA and Uber driver to now pay fines for cancelling rides

It won’t be long before commuters’ issues with the several downsides of cab aggregators—such as pick-up delays and arbitrary cancellations—are resolved. The recommendations aimed to address these pesky issues will be presented by a state government-appointed committee that was established in April 2023 in response to a flurry of complaints made by customers on various social media sites and to the government over an extended period of time.Currently, if a passenger cancels a ride, aggregator taxis charge a fee.The main suggestion is that every time a driver cancels a ride, a passenger receive a refund in the amount of $50 to $75. At the moment, aggregator taxis charge a fee each time a customer cancels a trip.

On the other side, a driver will only have 20 minutes to get to the pickup location before being fined for being late. Additionally, if a vehicle is discovered to be in poor condition for the road, the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) will have the ability to delist an aggregator taxi.
The draught proposals, which will shortly be presented to the state government, were produced by the six-member group, which was chaired by retired bureaucrat and former transport secretary Sudhirkumar Shrivastava. Other senior officers from the transport department and RTO also served on the committee.

These suggestions won’t take effect until the government approves them. The rebate will be paid to every passenger who faces cancellation, a government official said on the condition of anonymity.
