The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has been directed by the Orissa High Court to begin repairs to the Nata Mandap (dancing hall) and Jagamohana (hall facing the sanctum sanctorum) of the Shree Jagannath Temple complex tomorrow. The directive was issued by a division bench of the High Court comprised of Acting Chief Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi and Justice MS Raman during a hearing on a petition filed by Abhisek Das.
The court ordered the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) to cooperate fully with the ASI in carrying out the repairs to the 12th century shrine. The bench also directed the amicus curiae to visit the temple site every 15 days and submit to the court a status report on the progress of work. The court set December 4 as the next hearing date in the case.
