Anu Garg, the chief secretary of Odisha and chairman of the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB), visited the OSPCB on Monday and examined the Board’s operations, including its regulatory framework, waste management, environmental monitoring, human resources, present issues, and future plans. In order to create an environment that is favorable for new investments and industrial enterprises in Odisha, the Chief Secretary emphasized the necessity of striking a balance between environmental conservation and industrial development.
Garg emphasized the significance of making sure that industrial development and environmental conservation go hand in hand given the fast expansion of industries like steel, aluminum, power, mining, petrochemicals, and others in Odisha. The establishment of a data-driven, technologically enabled, and transparent environmental management system was discussed as a way to improve the Board’s role and operations beyond simply issuing permits and ensuring regulatory compliance.
The Chief Secretary recommended that policy reforms, institutional capacity building, modern technology adoption, laboratory and research infrastructure strengthening, waste recycling and reuse, public awareness, and human resource development be given top priority in the Board’s future action plan. She also had in-depth conversations with Board members on improving the OSPCB’s efficiency and transparency. The Board gave a thorough presentation on the current regulatory environment and its future plans on the occasion. In order to facilitate new investments and industrial installations within the Ease of Doing Business framework, the Chief Secretary emphasized the necessity of making environmental licensing and compliance procedures easier, transparent, predictable, time-bound, and technology-driven.
These actions will make it possible for businesses to uphold the necessary environmental protection regulations while improving the state’s environment for new investments and industrial growth. The Chief Secretary further emphasized that the larger goals of “Viksit Odisha 2036″ and “Viksit Bharat 2047″ should be the focus of all upcoming Odisha State Pollution Control Board efforts. She suggested that industrial growth, investment, innovation, employment creation, and sustainable economic development all be combined with environmental protection.
