Photografia 6.0 workshop concludes at IIMC Dhenkanal


Dhenkanal: The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) in Dhenkanal successfully concluded the sixth edition of ‘Photografia,’ an annual photography and visual storytelling workshop. The three-day workshop was curated and conducted by national award-winning photojournalist Himanshu Vyas, former Chief Photographer of Hindustan Times, Jaipur and Adjunct Professor of Photojournalism at HJU, and TabeenahAnjum Qureshi, Senior Journalist and Visual Storyteller, also an Adjunct Professor at HJU, along with Amit Chatterjee, Assistant Professor at VSSUT.Over fifty IIMC students participated in the workshop, which included rigorous sessions on the art and craft of photography as a medium of visual communication. The workshop also included a photo-walk with the resource personnel, allowing students to put their newly acquired skills into practice. The workshop concluded with an exhibition for everyone to appreciate the students’ work. Vivek Raj from the English journalism batch of 2022-2023 received particular honours for the image deemed to be the finest in the workshop’s photo stroll.The regional director of IIMC Dhenkanal, Dr. Mrinal Chatterjee said, “Photografia is an integral part of IIMC’s curriculum and is designed to enhance the students’ visual storytelling skills. The workshop was conducted by experienced photojournalists, providing valuable insights and hands-on experience for the students. It not only enhanced their technical knowledge, but also helped them understand the power of visual media in communicating ideas and telling stories.” He further added, “The importance of photography as a medium of communication cannot be overstated, and this workshop provided the students with a chance to learn from the best in the field. The IIMC is committed to providing its students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their careers, and this workshop was a testament to that commitment. The workshop was a resounding success and will undoubtedly benefit the students as they continue their journey in the field of journalism.”
