Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open 75 renovated railway stations nationwide on Friday, marking a major step in improving Odisha’s railway infrastructure. The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) has given seven stations in Odisha—Balangir, Barpali, Paralakhemundi, Talcher, Kesinga, Baripada, and Bimalgarh—a contemporary, passenger-friendly makeover.
These stations, which were redeveloped at a total cost of about ₹109 crore, demonstrate the Government of India’s dedication to building top-notch railway infrastructure while maintaining each region’s distinctive architectural and cultural identity. The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme seeks to convert train stations into contemporary, easily accessible, and future-ready transportation hubs that meet customers’ changing demands. Numerous better passenger facilities and increased accessibility are now available at the refurbished stations. Modern station buildings, 12-meter-wide Foot Over Bridges with lifts for smooth, barrier-free mobility, and expanded approach roads for better traffic flow are some of the key features.
To guarantee increased comfort and convenience, passenger amenities such roomy waiting areas, better platform shelters, contemporary restrooms, enhanced lighting, digital passenger information systems, and uniform signs have also been added. To better control traffic and improve the overall passenger experience, the parking facilities and circulation spaces have been rebuilt. The integration of Odisha’s rich cultural legacy into the station’s design is a unique feature of the reconstruction. With regionally inspired designs and artwork showcasing the State’s traditional handloom, handicrafts, and tribal traditions, the refurbished stations create a distinctive identity and provide a warm atmosphere for both passengers and tourists.
By enhancing connection and promoting tourism, trade, education, and local economic activities, the renovated stations are anticipated to play a significant role as catalysts for regional growth in addition to enhancing the travel experience.
