According to an official, the ambitious PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana’s rooftop solar (RTS) power generation capacity in Maharashtra has now surpassed 100 MW. 25,086 customers have installed 101.18 MW RTS power plants under this initiative, taking advantage of PM Suryaghar Muft Bijali Yojna incentives. The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MahaVitaran) is in charge of carrying out the programme. Lokesh Chandra, chairman and managing director of MahaVitaran, has urged customers to take full use of the program.

A maximum subsidy of Rs 78,000 for a 3 KW plant is being granted by the Central government under the initiative, which was launched in February. The direct payment process for the subsidy worth Rs 160 crore has begun for those 25,086 customers who have established RTS plants. 2,33,431 customers have applied through the MahaVitaran portal out of the approximately 3,51,942 customers that have registered for the program through the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Customers that produce more energy than they need can sell it to MahaVitaran. In addition to receiving no bills, these customers may profit from the sale of the excess generation.

Residential families with up to two kilowatts of solar power can receive a subsidy of Rs 30,000 per kilowatt, with an additional Rs 18,000 for a third. For systems with a capacity greater than 3 kW, a set total subsidy value of Rs 78,000 applies. For a maximum capacity of 500 kW, the Residential Cooperative Housing Schemes are eligible for a subsidy of Rs 18,000 per kilowatt, which may also contain a vehicle charging station. For these schemes, the maximum subsidy is Rs 90,000. Solar Net Meters for rooftop solar power will be provided by MahaVitaran. Up to 10 kW, automatic approval is granted. There are also bank loans accessible with favorable interest rates.
