The Odisha Private Bus Owners Association has stated that it would begin a strike on October 10 and continue throughout. The government’s LAccMI (location accessible multimodal initiative) project was objected to by the bus proprietors. At the owners’ association meeting today, a decision was made. According to Association secretary Debendra Sahu, buses would be taken off the road in the unincorporated Koraput area on October 2 since the bus service under the LAccMI plan is set to start from Malkangiri.
“In order to avoid impeding our company, we have asked the government to accept existing cars rather than buying new buses under the LAccMI plan. We had to go on a state-wide strike since the administration ignored our request, Sahu remarked.
The agitation will continue until the government formulates a clear policy on LAccMI and Mo Bus schemes, he added The government scheme will facilitate assured and affordable transportation for people across the state. It was approved by the State Cabinet headed by CM Naveen Patnaik recently.
