A professor who was assaulted by a student following an argument over coming late to class succumbed to his injuries sustained during the attack at the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VSSIMSAR) on Tuesday night.
According to reports, Prof Amit Barki was assaulted by Rajesh Sahis, a second-year undergraduate student inside the classroom at the PKSS Graduate College in the Kantapalli area of Odisha’s Jharsuguda district on February 22 this year. When Prof Barik asked Rajesh the reason for being late to the class, an argument ensued between the two.
The argument took an ugly turn and the student reportedly attacked his teacher fatally.
A critically injured Prof Barik was initially rushed to a nearby healthcare center but later shifted to Burla as his condition deteriorated. He breathed his last at the hospital last night while undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested Rajesh Sahis and are probing into the incident.
