Punjab DGP, other police officers will be punished for violating PM security

In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security breach in Punjab in January 2022, Bhagwant Mann has decided to begin disciplinary proceedings for a major penalty against Sidharth Chattopadhyaya, the then-DGP of Punjab, Inderbir Singh, the then-DIG of Ferozepur Range, and Harmandeep Singh Hans, the then-SSP. In response to the security lapse during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state in January of last year, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has ordered the beginning of “disciplinary proceedings for major penalty” against former Director General of Police (DGP) Sidharth Chattopadhyaya and two other police officers.Inderbir Singh, the former deputy inspector general (DIG) of police for the Ferozepur range, and Harmandeep Singh Hans, the former senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Ferozepur, would also face high penalty disciplinary actions in addition to Chattopadhyaya, who has since retired.

After looking into the security failure during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Punjab in January 2022, a committee established by the Supreme Court indicted numerous state authorities for failing to follow procedures. When demonstrators in Ferozepur blocked Modi’s convoy on January 5, 2022, he was forced to return from Punjab without going to any events, including rallies.
