The Chief Minister’s intervention has been requested by the All Odisha Bus Owners Association (AOBOA) regarding the operation of buses under the “Mo Bus” and “Location Accessible Multi-modal Initiative” (LAccMI) schemes.
The AOBOA has objected to the Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Department’s decision to run “Mo Bus” on new routes from Bhubaneswar Airport to Puri and Cuttack, as well as its plans to operate in Keonjhar and Berhampur, in a letter sent to the CM on Wednesday.
In its letter, the Association asked the CM to address the issue in order to ensure the continued existence of private bus companies. The letter from the AOBOA states that during a meeting presided over by the minister of commerce and transportation on October 26, it was decided to keep things as they are for the time being and that the committee established in the H&UD Department will be in charge of deciding whether to expand Mo Bus services outside of the city limits.
The Association has noted that it will be extremely difficult for private bus operators to survive if the government proceeds with its plans to operate Mo Bus and LAccMI buses on different intercity routes throughout the State.
