Union Minister of Communications and Electronics & Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad launched “Swadeshi Microprocessor Challenge- Innovate Solutions for “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” to strengthen progress towards the healthy ecosystem of Start-up, innovations and research within the country.
IIT Madras in cooperation with Center for Development of Advanced Computing has developed two microprocessors named SHAKTI (32 bit) and VEGA (64 bit) using Open Source Architecture under the aegis of Microprocessor Development Programme of Ministry of Electronics and IT.
“Swadeshi Microprocessor Challenge would enhance Solutions which seeks to ask innovators, startups and students to use these microprocessors to develop various technology products.
It is going cater such essential steps towards realizing the ambition of self-reliance and a momentous stride towards “Atmanirbhar Bharat.
This initiative is aimed toward not only meeting India’s future requirements of strategic and industrial sectors but also has the potential to mitigate the issues of security, technology obsolescence and most crucially removing the dependency on imports.
Students within the least levels of the startup, the challenge demands contestants not only tinker with these Swadeshi Processor IPs needs but also make available the entire home-grown ecosystem around Swadeshi Processors to develop both global and domestic requirements for future assignments.
Ministry of Electronics and offers a slew of benefits to the contestants and technology resources that include internship opportunities and regular technical guidance from the VLSI & Electronics System Design Experts and business mentorship & funding support, facilitated by Incubation Centres.
The challenge spread ten months back, and thus the kick-starts with the registration process on 18th August 2020 and culminates in June 2021.
This provides an opportunity for 100 Semi-finalists to win a total of Rs. 1.00 Crore of Award, 25 Finalists to earn total Rs. 1.00 Crore of the award and top 10 teams winning the finale, would seed the fund of Rs 2.30 Crore and incubation support for 12 months.
These participants will get an opportunity to translate their innovations around Swadeshi Processors and showcase at a far better viewership platform.
