Electronics & Information Technology Minister Mukesh Mahaling told the state parliament on Monday that Reliance Jio still has a 47.54% market share in wireless communication in Odisha, followed by Airtel with 33.77% and BSNL with 15.58%. 3.10% of the market was held by Vodafone Idea.
Minister Mahaling described the uneven distribution of cellular users among different service providers in the state in a written response to a query from senior BJD leader and Athagarh MLA Ranendra Pratap Swain. The data shows how private telecom companies, especially Reliance Jio and Airtel, are increasingly dominating state-run BSNL. The minister said that, unlike the Kerala government’s recent effort, the Odisha government does not presently have any plans to provide users an alternate service choice.
