BHUBANESWAR: In an emotional statement on Friday, the father of the RG Kar Medical College rape-murder victim expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support shown worldwide through the “Reclaim the Night” protests. “I might have lost my daughter, but I gained millions,” he told reporters, moved by the solidarity demonstrated across the globe.

However, he made a heartfelt plea to the public and the media, urging them to refrain from naming his daughter, sharing “ugly photographs” of her body, or spreading misinformation. The father emphasized the importance of respecting his daughter’s dignity and memory.

Amidst the grief and calls for justice, the victim’s mother levelled fresh allegations against the police. She recounted receiving a call from the hospital assistant superintendent at 10:53 am on the day of the incident, informing her that it was a suicide. However, when they arrived at the hospital, they were not allowed to see their daughter’s body until 3 pm, raising suspicions and adding to their distress.

“We were under a lot of pressure,” the mother shared, adding that there were even attempts to damage her daughter’s car. When Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited their home, the family expressed doubts about the involvement of Sanjay Roy, the accused who has been arrested in connection with the case.

The father reiterated that Chief Minister Banerjee had personally called for a CBI probe into the matter, and the family has since moved court to expedite the investigation.

As protests and rallies continue to gain momentum across the country and abroad, the victim’s mother voiced her full support for the movement. “We are in 100% support of the movement and the protests taking place across the country and abroad,” she affirmed.
