BHUBANESWAR: Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, a highly respected IPS officer from the 1990 batch, has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) for Odisha. The official announcement came from the Odisha Home Department on Friday, marking a significant moment for the state’s law enforcement.
Born in the small district of YB Kaithal, Haryana, on 9 March 1966, YB Khurania has steadily risen through the ranks, earning a reputation for his integrity and commitment. His career began as Superintendent of Police (SP) in the districts of Nayagarh, Jajapur, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, and Rourkela, where he left a lasting impact with his effective leadership. Over the years, he advanced to the positions of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and later Inspector General of Police (IGP), serving in Sambalpur and Bhubaneswar.
Most recently, YB Khurania held the position of Director of the Biju Patnaik State Police Academy (BPSPA), while also serving as Inspector General of Police, Training, in Bhubaneswar. His service has been recognized with numerous accolades, including the prestigious Governor’s Medal and the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
YB Khurania’s appointment as Odisha’s DGP has generated widespread optimism. Many believe that his leadership will bring about significant improvements in the state’s law and order situation. His previous tenure as the Commissioner of Police for the Twin City of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack is particularly noted for its effectiveness and innovation, setting a high standard for policing in the region.
