There may be a new confrontation between the BJP and the Congress as the Basavaraj Bommai-led administration prepares to propose a measure that would outlaw the consumption of halal meat in the state as the winter session of the Karnataka Assembly in Belagavi began yesterday.BJP MLC N Ravikumar, according to sources in TOI, has taken the effort to outlaw food certification by any bodies other than the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

In reality, “Halal” and “Jerk” are techniques of killing animals for food. In halal, a chicken or goat’s neck is slowly severed throughout the slaughter process, but in jerk, the neck is severed all at once. Muslim doctrine holds that eating meat from an animal that was killed in any other way than a halal manner is forbidden. Political conflict in the election-bound state is anticipated as a result of the ruling party’s plan to introduce anti-halal meat legislation in the Karnataka legislature. On Monday, Ravikumar is going to discuss this with CM Basavaraj Bommai.

Arvind Bellad, a BJP MLA, asserted that the majority of people in the nation do not adhere to halal. Congress may say whatever it likes, but a large portion of the population rejects halal. Why should it be mentioned on every product? he asked. Congressman UT Khadar claimed that we are aware of the BJP’s strategy. He stated: “They intend to draw focus away from problems like her failure, corruption, and voter data theft. The anti-halal measure aims to divide votes along racial and ethnic lines in advance of the assembly elections.”Halal meat generated trouble earlier this year in Karnataka, when many pro-Hindu and Hindutva organisations demanded a complete boycott of eateries that serve it during the Navratri and Ugadi festivals.
