The Supreme Court has granted bail for suspending Chilika MLA Prashant Jagdev, who had allegedly thrusted his SUV into a horde injuring at least 22.
The Head Court had set the terms and said Jagdev would not be able to go to his assembly constituency for a year. He is only allowed to visit it with the permission of the District Collector. Further, the SC ordered that he cannot conduct sessions with more than five people at a time.
On March 12, when Jagdev was proceeding for the Block chairman election to Banpur, he had to halt due to the heavy rush in front of the Block office. Jagdev reportedly drove it into the crowd instead of slowing down the vehicle and a number of 22 people were injured in the incident. The angry mob then attacked the MLA and destroyed the vehicle. The injured MLA was first admitted to Banpur Hospital and later transferred to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was arrested after being discharged on March 22nd.
