BHUBANESWAR: In a landmark deal, Adar Poonawalla-led Serene Productions has entered into a binding agreement to acquire a 50% stake in Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Dharmatic Entertainment. The investment, amounting to Rs 1,000 crore, marks a significant moment in the Indian film and entertainment industry.

Serene Productions, the media arm of the vaccine giant Serum Institute of India, announced the deal on Monday, stating that the partnership with Dharma Productions reflects its growing interest in diversifying into the entertainment sector. With this acquisition, Serene Productions will hold a 50% stake in both Dharma Productions and Dharmatic Entertainment, while Karan Johar retains the remaining ownership.

The collaboration between Poonawalla and Johar is expected to open new avenues for both companies, blending Dharma’s expertise in content creation with Serene Productions’ financial strength and long-term vision for entertainment expansion.

This strategic investment underscores Poonawalla’s continued ambition to explore industries beyond pharmaceuticals, while providing Johar’s production house with additional capital to scale its operations and strengthen its foothold in the global market.
