The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has decided to restrict the use of plastics and polythene in the temple in the near future.
In an effort to encourage devotees and other “sevayat nijogs” (temple servitor bodies) to carry flowers and other offerings, such as bhog, in paper and cotton bags, bamboo, and palm leaf baskets rather than polythene carry bags or plastic articles, reports state that Chief Administrator of the SJTA Ranjan Kumar Das has made an appeal via social media groups.
In an attempt to keep the temple grounds clean, the SJTA plans to strictly enforce the prohibitions starting on New Year’s Day.
