Siddhant Das has been named the new chairman of the Central Empowered Committee (CEC), a central body that oversees and ensures adherence to Supreme Court of India rulings in relation to writ petitions involving environmental clearance. Das was appointed by the ministry of environment, forests, and climate change.
As the first person to hold the top position in the permanent CEC, Siddhant was the chairman of the Odisha Real Estate Regulatory Authority before being promoted.The CEC used to be the watchdog over environmental clearances and compliances, operating on an as-needed basis.
