In order to discuss the recovery of unpaid energy taxes from industrial units throughout the state, Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo presided over a review meeting on Wednesday. An official news release states that the meeting’s main focus was on energy duty arrears, specifically those resulting from industrial units’ self-generation and consumption of electricity. Officials offered a thorough examination of the causes of these unpaid debts.
The conversations showed that ongoing legal challenges, including lawsuits pending in the High Court of Orissa and other judicial venues, regarding exemptions from energy duty have caused a considerable delay in the collecting process. Deputy CM Singh Deo instructed the Energy Department to take proactive steps and emphasized the significance of recovering these debts as soon as possible. To expedite the resolution of outstanding cases, he directed officials to speak with the Energy Department Advisor and the Advocate General of Odisha.
Vishal Dev, the Energy Department’s principal secretary, Sanjay Sen, the department’s advisor, Pyari Mohan Mishra, the EIC (Elect)-cum-PCEI, and other high-ranking officials attended the meeting.
