SJTA Urges Puri Hotels To Spread Awareness Among Pilgrims Regarding Decent Dresses

The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) advised hotels, guesthouses, and eateries today to train employees to inform visitors and pilgrims about the recent decision to require respectable attire for visits to the Shree Jagannath Temple. Ranjan Dash, chief administrator of the SJTA, wrote to the president and secretary of the Hotel & Restaurant Association of Puri with the following request: “Since many of these visitors and devotees are used to staying in hotels and guest houses which are the originating points before coming to Temple, we urge you to educate your staff, tourist guides, and yatri pandas collaborating with you to spread awareness among the visitors in this regard.”

The awareness campaign will run through the year’s conclusion. He continued by saying that the temple management will take strict action to guarantee the warning from the New Year. Although the SJTA hasn’t provided any guidelines for suitable attire, worshippers are nonetheless expected to dress appropriately and decently. According to the letter, males may wear slacks, shirts, chudidar-punjabi, and dhotis, while women devotees may wear sarees and salwar-kameej, among other traditional clothing.

In a recent Niti Sub-Committee Meeting of SJTA, it was decided to encourage devotees to dress appropriately and decently. The SJTA stated that it is important to prevent people from continuing to wear unsuitable clothing, such as shorts, exposing skirts, damaged or tattered jeans, and other outfits.

The government asserted that modest attire would maintain religious sanctity and a spiritual atmosphere in religious settings, citing the examples of other shrines of many religions throughout the nation and overseas on their specific dress requirements. The SJTA stated that the implementation of the same in Puri Srimandir had been demanded by academics, researchers, clergy, and Lord Jagannath followers.
