Nakhia Singh, 35, was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) on Thursday by the Jajpur Adhoc Fast Track POCSO Court after being found guilty of raping a young girl in 2017. In addition, Nakhia was given a Rs 5,000 fine by the court. Nakhia will have to endure an extra 10 months of RI if the fine is not paid.
The District Legal Cell Authority was additionally directed by the court to provide the rape victim compensation in the amount of Rs 7 lakh. The verdict was reached by the court based on the testimony of 17 witnesses. On March 24, 2017, at around 5:00 PM, the event occurred within the Barchana police jurisdiction. The girl was taken without her will by Nakhia as she was playing in the village.
After the victim narrated her ordeal to her parents they filed a written complaint at the Barchana police station. On the basis of the complaint, police registered a case and forwarded the accused to court.
