State Govt Declares Cancer As ‘Reportable Disease’

To mobilize resources for prevention and control and lower the number of deaths attributable to it, it is crucial to estimate the burden of cancer and how it is distributed with regard to time, place, and person. It is crucial to remember that some geographic areas need sufficient care due to the occurrence of specific cancer kinds.

The Odisha government has determined that it is essential for early illness identification and treatment that all cases of cancer be reported to the proper authorities as soon as they are discovered.

All parties involved in Hospitals (Private or Public), Pathological, Clinical, and Radiological Labs, Institutions imparting Medical Education and providing diagnostic treatment, Palliative Care, and any other healthcare-related facilities are required by the Government of Odisha to report all cases of cancer that have been determined to exist.

According to a State Government Notification, it stated that “Cancer” is a “Reportable Disease” in the State of Odisha for the purpose and would be duly followed” as of October 19, 2022.

In addition to that Population Based Cancer Registry (PBCR) started in the Khordha district of Odisha on 15th October 2022, from the NISER Bhubaneswar campus with support from Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai, Department of Atomic Energy.
