On Thursday, a fight over chicken pieces in the mid-day meals at a school put all the instructors in a soup. The incident occurred at Amriti Primary School in the Englishbazar neighbourhood of the Malda district when parents confined the teachers in a room because they were upset with the teachers for reportedly keeping all the good parts of the chicken for themselves. The district administration was required to look into the parents’ claim. When the parents arrived at the school, they ordered the teachers to serve the students neck, liver, and stomach in place of the complete order of chicken legs and other meaty dishes.
They claimed that on days when it should be given as part of the midday meal, the teachers cook the chicken separately and use better rice since they are in a “picnic mood.” “The youngsters’ parents and guardians visited the school and discussed the matter with the teachers. A fight broke out between the two sides. Six teachers were forced into a room by the parents, who then closed the door from the outside. Around four hours were spent keeping the teachers locked up. The teachers were released after the police got involved, according to an officer. The West Bengali government began offering chicken and seasonal fruits as lunch options for students in January. Prior to the pandemic, the government changed the menu in the public schools and added fish or eggs twice weekly in addition to the other days’ servings of boiled rice, soy beans, and vegetables. Midday lunches are provided to the state’s more than 11.6 million pupils enrolled in public schools. The government set aside Rs 372 crore in January to supplement schoolchildren’s nourishment up until April 23.
