Team Gonasika Launches with High Hopes for the Revamped HIL 2024-25

In a thrilling launch event held on October 19, 2024, Team Gonasika—a Visakhapatnam-based franchise in the Hockey India League (HIL)—unveiled its new logo, heralding its debut in the highly anticipated 2024-25 season. Under the visionary leadership of team owner Mr. Tarini Prasad Mohanty, Gonasika is set to become a symbol of pride for Odisha’s deep-rooted connection to hockey. The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Dilip Tirkey, President of Hockey India and a hockey legend himself, further amplifying the excitement surrounding the team’s entry into the league.

 

The 2024-25 HIL season marks a significant revival of the league, featuring eight men’s teams and, for the first time, six standalone women’s teams—establishing a historic milestone for Indian hockey. Team Gonasika stands poised to make a major impact, with the inclusion of top-tier players such as Birendra Lakra, Nilam Sanjeep Xess, Dipsan Tirkey, and Anmol Ekka, all hailing from Odisha, making it a special moment for the state’s hockey enthusiasts

Mr. Dilip Tirkey, speaking at the logo unveiling, expressed his optimism about the return of the HIL and its potential to reignite enthusiasm for the sport. “The HIL is back with an abundance of excitement,” he said. “It provides an unparalleled platform for young Indian players to hone their skills while competing with international hockey stars.
