A 15-year-old girl who was allegedly set on fire on the banks of the Bhargavi River in Odisha’s Puri district on July 19 has died while undergoing treatment at AIIMS, New Delhi. The teenager had sustained over 70 percent burn injuries and was initially treated at a local community health centre, before being shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar and later airlifted to the national capital.
Following her death, the Odisha Police released an official statement on Sunday confirming that their investigation into the case is in its final stage. The statement, posted on X (formerly Twitter), emphasized that there is no involvement of any other person in the incident.
“We are deeply saddened to hear the news of the death of the victim girl in the Balanga incident. The police have conducted a thorough investigation, which has now reached its final stage. According to the findings so far, it is clear that no other person is involved in this incident,” the statement read.
Urging the public to refrain from making any speculative or sensitive remarks, the police added that this is a time for collective grief and respect for the victim and her family.
