Ten students from Vedanta Limited’s Lanjigarh archery training programme, India’s leading producer of metallurgical grade alumina, have won the 23rd State Archery Championship 2022 in Bolangir, Odisha. The competition drew 230 participants from across Odisha and was held in Khaprakhol, Bolangir. This included 19 Kalahandi athletes who were chosen at an intra-district championship held last month by Vedanta Lanjigarh in collaboration with the Kalahandi District Athletics Association (KDAA).
Ten of these 19 students, who were supported by Vedanta Lanjigarh’s archery programme, returned home as state champions, winning four gold, two silver, and four bronze medals. Three junior competitors, Sanjay Majhi, Mithun Naik, and Nithaniyal Mallick, have been chosen to compete in the 42nd NTPC Junior Nationals, which will be held in Panaji, Goa, from November 3rd to November 12th. The Odisha Archery Association has organised a three-week training programme for them in Cuttack.
