Organizing a colossal event like Make in Odisha is never a cakewalk. A marquee investment event is the culmination of adept planning, out-of-the-box thinking and copious efforts on the ground. And the man who takes the crown jewel for the coordinated preparatory success of Make in Odisha 3.0 is Hemant Sharma, Principal Secretary, Industries department.

Recently, a ground-breaking ceremony was held at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar, the venue of the showpiece investment summit.

Elaborating on the efforts, Mr Sharma said, “The development of the site and infrastructure for the Make in Odisha Conclave’22 at Janata Maidan is being undertaken by the Government of Odisha along with FICCI, the National Industry Partner for Make in Odisha Conclave’22. The entire Janata Maidan spread of 20000 Square Meters will be converted into a modern state-of-the-art event venue with an exhibition centre, a plenary hall, 5 session halls, the Chief Minister’s Lounge, VIP Lounge, a dedicated Media Lounge, a Dining area, Food Court, and a grand stage for cultural events. The venue will also have two large anamorphic screens and six pods displaying Odisha’s culture, heritage and industrial prowess.”

“Make in Odisha Conclave is the flagship investment summit of Odisha. The event will be conducted from 30th November 2022 to 4th December 2022. This is going to be the third edition of the Make in Odisha Conclave, previously hosted in 2016 and 2018. The Invest Odisha team is working towards ensuring a successful MIO Conclave’22 and we believe we will be able to deliver an outstanding business summit ensuring Odisha’s rise into the league of industrially developed states”, he added.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will inaugurate the event and the Make in Odisha Expo on 30th November 2022. On December 1, the Chief Minister will host a plenary session with CXOs and business leaders from across the country. After the plenary session, there will be a session on Start-Up Odisha and Business Leadership Talks. On the MIO platform, CXOs, strategists, technology evangelists, thought leaders and entrepreneurs will discuss trending and emerging opportunities in the business world.

Mr Sharma is known to be an adroit, no-nonsense officer who has excelled in an array of roles. He revitalized the power sector of Odisha which was once in the doldrums. He has performed creditably well in his avatar as the Industries secretary. In the run-up to Make in Odisha 3.0, he has been instrumental in attracting investments across sectors. He has also been a pivotal part of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s entourage, staging roadshows in a multitude of locations to showcase Odisha to investors.

Under Mr Sharma’s stewardship, Odisha looks to better its performance in the much-awaited investment conclave. Previously, the Conclave was held in 2016 and 2018. During the 2016 edition, the state received over 120 investment intents worth over Rs 2 lakh crore, organized over 500 G2B and B2B meetings, welcomed over 270 exhibitors, and saw a footfall of over 18500 visitors. The state hosted the 2nd edition in 2018, raising the bar even higher. Over 4 lakh crores in investment intentions were received, 600 G2B and B2B meetings were conducted, and over 51,000 people walked through the state.
