Odisha is known for its beautiful architecture and astounding temples. Bhubaneswar is fondly called the “Temple City” because of wide range of temples. Lingaraj Temple is one of the most ancient temples and is located in the Indian State of Odisha. The temple is adorned in Kalinga Architecture and the Construction of Lingaraj Temple is said to be completed by 11th century. The most interesting fact about the architecture is that the Central Tower of the Temple is 180ft (55m) tall. Bhubaneswar is also called Ekamra Kshetra. This is because the original deity of Lingaraj was under a mango tree (Ekamra). This information was found in Ekamra Puran.

A lot of visitors come to visit this profound temple. The maintainence of this temple is looked after by (ASI) or Archeological Survey of India. It is beleived that an underground river originating from the Lingaraj Temple fills the Bindusagar Tank. This water has been used to heal physical illness and is also believed that people who had several spiritual illness feel relief by using the water.

The temple hosts around six thousand visitors per day (average) and around 2 lakhs of visitors visited Lingaraj temple on 2012 Maha Shivratri. The ambience of this place is sure to make a special place in your heart.
