The Khalistani threat is rearing its head seriously
There has been a threat to remove the Indian Tricolor and replace it with a banner for Khalistan in Delhi’s Pragati Maidan, the location of a high-profile G20 conference in September, amid a large manhunt for extremist Sikh preacher and Khalistan sympathizer Amritpal Singh. Police have opened an inquiry after getting a tip from a person who two days ago got an audio recording from an unknown number.
The followers of Amritpal will seize Pragati Maidan and down the Indian flag, according to the audio message. Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were purportedly called names in the audio message. Charges of attempting to incite a riot and disrupt law and order were included in the First Information Report, or FIR, that the police filed. A traveler arriving at the Delhi Airport received the audio recording.
Authorities have tightened security at Pragati Maidan, a sizable exposition and convention center where many national and international events are held, as well as other important areas in India’s capital while they attempt to identify the source of the audio tape. A group of individuals carrying Khalistan flags removed an Indian flag from a first-floor balcony of the Indian High Commission in London earlier this week during a pro-Amritpal demonstration there. Delhi Police began an investigation into the incident on Friday.
