In order to alleviate the extreme traffic on the NH-16 and State Highways in and around Bhubaneswar during the evening, the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate has implemented traffic restrictions. The limitations, which are intended to improve traffic flow and ensure public safety, will go into force today and last until further notice. The public is inconvenienced by the substantial traffic congestion that happens every day between 5 and 10 p.m., according to a public notice released by Commissioner of Police Suresh Dev Datta Singh.
Section 28 of the Odisha Urban Police Act of 2003 and Regulation 36 of the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate (Traffic and Public Order) laws of 2008 have established special traffic laws to address this.
Key restrictions include:
- Diversion for Goods Carriers from Khurda: Trucks and trailers with six or more wheels coming from Khurda towards Cuttack via Bhubaneswar will be diverted at Pitapalli Square towards Cuttack via Chandaka Square.
- Restriction on Goods Carriers from Mancheswar: Goods vehicles from the Mancheswar Industrial area are prohibited from accessing NH-16 at Rasulgarh Square during the restricted hours.
Section 96 of the Odisha Urban Police Act, 2003, stipulates consequences for anyone who violate this order. A minimum fine of ₹500 and a maximum fine of ₹1,000 are imposed for the violation. According to the Police Commissioner, everyone involved must comply with these steps in order to guarantee improved traffic management and public safety.
