Six men were arrested on Thursday after the bodies of two teenage Dalit sisters were found hanging from a tree in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh.
The accused admitted to killing the girls after rape. The defendants were identified as Chotu, Junaid, Sohail, Hafizul, Kalimuddin and Arif.
Lakhimpur Kheri’s SP Sanjeev Suman said Junaid was caught after being shot in his leg. Chotu, the prime suspect, introduced the sisters to the other three suspects. One of the defendants wanted to marry one of the sisters.
Meanwhile, the police denied about the kidnapping and said the sisters went willingly. But, the mother of the two girls claimed they were abducted three hours before they were found dead, and she accused three young men living in the neighbouring village of Naighasan Police Station limits of kidnapping and murdering her daughters.
Before on Wednesday, Uttar Pradesh police found two of the teenage sisters hanging by their own dupattas from a tree near the sugarcane field about a kilometer away from their home.
