Vedanta’s VAB bags ‘CII Energy Efficient Unit’ award

Vedanta’s Value-Added Business (VAB) was named ‘Energy Efficient Unit’ at the 23rd CII National Energy Management Awards in 2022. Vedanta’s VAB has received this prestigious award for the fourth time in the last six years, in recognition of their ongoing efforts to reduce their specific energy consumption through innovation, technology advancement, and adoption of best practises across the industry. VAB began several energy-saving projects in line with Vedanta’s larger goal of carbon neutral operations by 2050 or earlier, such as turbine upgrade to increase power generation from waste heat recovery power plant from 30 MW to 35 MW, with a 20 cr. investment, introduction of dual burners in Sinter plant ignition furnace, Low basicity sinter for optimising low grade Ore, selective utilisation.

Vedanta’s VAB also won the National Energy Efficiency Circle competition in 2020 and 2021 for ‘Best DC under PAT cycle’ and ‘Best Managed Electrical System, Safety, and Power Quality.’

 

Mr. Sujal Shah, CEO-VAP, Vedanta Limited, congratulated the VAB team and stated, “We are investing in energy efficient practises with a greater emphasis on our larger goal of achieving carbon neutral operations by 2050, and this prestigious recognition reflects our sincere efforts.” Congratulations to the VAB team for winning this award for the fourth time in the last six years.

Vedanta’s VAB has implemented numerous environmentally friendly initiatives both within the plant and in the surrounding communities. The company operates two waste heat recovery power plants that generate clean energy by utilising waste heat from blast furnaces and metallurgical coke making operations. VAB has also created green belt areas in and around its operations via massive plantation drives, including the use of the Japanese ‘Miyawaki Plantation’ technique.
