Veteran Actor Achyut Potdar, Remembered as the Professor in *3 Idiots*, Passes Away at 91

Veteran actor Achyut Potdar, best known for his portrayal of the professor in Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots, passed away on Monday in Thane at the age of 91. The exact cause of his death has not been disclosed, though reports suggest he had been admitted to a hospital recently due to age-related complications. His funeral will be held on August 19 in Thane.

With a career spanning several decades, Potdar appeared in over 125 Hindi and Marathi films, along with more than 100 television serials. His diverse filmography includes acclaimed works such as Aakrosh, Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyoon Aata Hai, Ardh Satya, Tezaab, Parinda, Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Dilwale, Rangeela, Vaastav, Parineeta, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, 3 Idiots, and Dabangg 2.

On television, he was part of popular shows like Wagle Ki Duniya, Majha Hoshil Na, Mrs Tendulkar, and Bharat Ki Khoj. Potdar also worked extensively in the Marathi film industry, leaving a rich legacy across mediums.

The news of his passing was confirmed by Star Pravah on Instagram, which paid tribute with the message: “A heartfelt tribute to senior actor Achyut Potdar… His smile, simplicity and honesty in every role will always be remembered.”
