Women and their safety

By Riddhima Sen

The recent incident at Durgapur has raised alarm in the state. A young MBBS student, was raped, allegedly by four men in a deserted jungle, and the various sources of information are presenting different versions of the same story. The survivor was out with her supposed partner, when the fateful, tragic incident took place. The statements passed by the Chief Minister is highly alarming and shocking, an insignia of the corruption going on in the state. Women safety has become an issue of meagre attention in the state, nowadays. Women can no longer go out safely.
The R G Kar incident last year, which took place around Durga Puja, had caused uproar throughout the entire nation. Be it social media, or via loud and clear protests of the doctors, joined by commoners too, the fire of revolution was glowing bright orangish red, demanding a proper answer to the injustice meted out to the innocent survivor . The society, as a whole, is a hotbed of social issues at this point. A woman’s position in an Indian household, is still at stake. Be it a mother sacrificing her everything for her family and child , or a young daughter’s life being restricted by boundaries , the discrimination is omnipresent .
