Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) celebrated its 37-year legacy with the 6th Annual Business Excellence Summit, held from September 14-15, 2024, under the theme “Redefining Possibilities.” The two-day event brought together industry leaders, innovators, and students to explore the future of business, technology, and leadership in a rapidly changing world.
On the second day, the summit featured a keynote address by Richard Lobo, Chief People Officer at Tech Mahindra and an XIM Bhubaneswar alumnus. In his insightful speech, Lobo emphasized the critical role of innovation and ethics in leadership amidst the challenges of AI, business model evolution, and global shifts. Drawing on lessons from corporate failures like Boeing and Satyam, he reminded the audience that “there is no right way to do a wrong thing” and advocated for integrity in leadership.
He also underscored the importance of people as the greatest asset in any organization, stating, “A leader succeeds because their network succeeds.” At the end of his address, Lobo presented his newly published book, Human at Work: Arm Yourself to Thrive in a Fast-Changing Workplace, to Associate Dean of Career Advisory Services, Prof. Francis Thomas Castelino.
The event’s second session, “How Analytics and Digital Industry Strategies Fuel Business Advancement,” saw insights from alumni like Sambit Mohanty, Business Development Leader at Siemens Digital. Mohanty explored the impact of technology across sectors, from healthcare to retail, and highlighted the potential and risks of AI, including data breaches and ethical dilemmas.
Biju Dominic, Chief Evangelist at Fractal Analytics, added that technology alone cannot address human challenges, pointing out the need for data-driven behavioral changes. “Data without action misses the point,” Dominic remarked.
A lively panel discussion moderated by Prof. Shridhar Dash of XIM Bhubaneswar followed, covering topics such as AI’s role in decision-making and overcoming resistance to innovation. The summit concluded with an engaging Q&A session, leaving attendees with valuable insights into the future of business in a tech-driven world.
