Born and brought up in the capital, her journey into journalism was inspired by a serendipitous encounter in her childhood. At just ten years old, Yashika found herself face-to-face with renowned news anchor Anju Pankaj, who asked her a thought-provoking question: “What is more important, name or fame?” That moment left an indelible mark on young Yashika, shaping her aspirations and igniting her passion for journalism.
Determined to follow her dream, Yashika pursued a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. Her academic journey was complemented by hands-on experience, starting with an internship at the esteemed newspaper Asian Age, where she delved into print journalism with a focus on sports. The following year, she transitioned to television, interning with the India Today Group. These experiences laid the foundation for her future in the dynamic field of sports media.
In 2007, Yashika embarked on her professional journey, securing a position with the India Today Group, where she honed her skills for nearly a decade. The transition from a fresh graduate to a seasoned anchor was challenging, requiring her to unlearn textbook theories and absorb the nuances of live broadcasting. She spent hours in the PCR (Production Control Room), closely observing senior anchors and refining her presentation style. Yashika soon realized that success in journalism was not just about talent but also about creating one’s own opportunities. No one hands success on a silver platter; it has to be earned through persistence and dedication.
Her passion for sports broadcasting led her to freelance with leading networks like Star Sports, Sony, and Ten Sports. She also had the opportunity to work with Rajasthan Royals, further solidifying her reputation in the industry. Transitioning from general news to sports journalism was a significant shift, but Yashika embraced it wholeheartedly. Her ability to articulate the nuances of sports, combined with her engaging screen presence, made her a recognizable face in the industry.
With an impressive career spanning television networks and sports franchises, Yashika’s journey reflects the evolving landscape of journalism. She believes that digital media has revolutionized the industry, creating a space where journalists can express their individuality. Unlike the structured narratives of newspapers and TV newsrooms, social media allows for more personal storytelling. However, she also acknowledges the challenges that come with it. To her, AI fosters dependency rather than authenticity, stripping away the human element that defines storytelling. While AI can assist in data analysis and content generation, it lacks the intuition, empathy, and critical thinking that a journalist brings to the table. “Technology should enhance our skills, not replace them,” she asserts.
Beyond her professional achievements, Yashika is passionate about mentoring young journalists. She encourages aspiring media professionals to be fearless in their pursuit of excellence. “Dream big because no one else will do it for you. Be the inspiration you seek. Stay honest to your craft, carve your own identity, and own it with confidence. If you love yourself, the world will follow,” she advises. She believes that authenticity is the key to success, urging newcomers to embrace their individuality rather than conforming to industry norms.

The beginning of 2025 brought her to Odisha, where she is covering the prestigious Hockey India League for DD and Sony. Reporting from the field, interacting with players, and bringing the game closer to fans have been some of the most rewarding aspects of her career. Her work is not just about narrating sports events; it is about capturing the passion, energy, and emotions that define the game.
