Md. Parwez Ali Khan, a dynamic and dedicated leader, has traversed a multifaceted journey from student leadership to seasoned politics in Sambalpur. As the grandson of the region’s first MLA, he combines a rich familial legacy with a commitment to public service, social activism, legal advocacy, and community development, shaping a comprehensive and impactful career.

 

 

1. Can you share your journey from being a student leader to a seasoned politician in Sambalpur?

Originating in my active engagement during school and college, my evolution from a student leader to an adept Sambalpur politician reflects my commitment to honing leadership abilities. Securing the presidency of NSCB College in 2000 marked a pivotal juncture. Subsequently, the establishment of Paschim Odisha Chatra Parishad, where I assumed the role of General Secretary, not only solidified my leadership journey but also propelled my recognition as a youth icon with a global impact.

 

2. How has your background, being the grandson of the first MLA of Sambalpur, influenced your political career?

As the descendant of Sambalpur’s inaugural MLA, my political trajectory has been profoundly shaped, fostering a profound sense of responsibility and a heartfelt connection to the community’s needs. This familial legacy instilled in me a commitment to public service, motivating my endeavors to address and fulfill the aspirations of the people. This historical lineage has not only influenced but also deepened my dedication to the betterment of Sambalpur through my political career.

 

3. You’ve been actively involved in social activism. Can you highlight some of the significant social reforms you’ve championed in the region?

Within the sphere of social activism, I have ardently advocated for significant causes, including the establishment of IIM, Sambalpur. I’ve been a vocal proponent for local youth employment, consistently engaging in efforts to create opportunities. And also the trustee of Tribal and folk Art Center and Sai Siksha Parishad. Active involvement in diverse social and cultural initiatives has been a hallmark of my contributions, often facilitated through organizations like Sai Siksha Parishad. These endeavors underscore my commitment to fostering positive change and holistic development within the community.

 

4. Tell us about your educational pursuits, especially your decision to study LLB and its impact on your perspective as a lawyer and social activist?

Commencing with my involvement in Rotaract in 1997, I progressed to assume the role of President at the Rotary Club of Sambalpur Greater in 2015-16. Pursuing an LLB,PGD in IR$PM further solidified my dedication to legal advocacy for the common people, significantly shaping my outlook as both a lawyer and social activist. These educational endeavors have not only enriched my understanding but also fueled my passion for championing justice and social welfare within the community.

 

5. Could you elaborate on your political activities, such as your role in the Indian Youth Congress and your tenure as the ARO of Ramgarh, Hazaribagh Jharkhand?

Embarking on my political journey, I became a member of the Indian Youth Congress in 2003. Subsequently, in 2006, I took on the role of Assembly Returning Officer (ARO) for Ramgarh, Hazaribagh, Jharkhand. These pivotal experiences heightened my determination to advocate for the rights and well-being of the people. My involvement in the political arena has consistently reinforced my commitment to serving the community and fighting for their fundamental rights and welfare.

 

6. Being a trustee and actively involved in cultural and tribal organizations, how do you see the intersection of politics and culture in Sambalpur?

Serving as a trustee in cultural and tribal organizations, I recognize the crucial nexus between politics and culture in safeguarding the identity and heritage of Sambalpur. This dynamic relationship plays a vital role in enriching the region’s socio-cultural fabric. By understanding and navigating this intersection, I am dedicated to fostering initiatives that contribute to the preservation and promotion of our cultural richness, ensuring a harmonious blend that strengthens the social and cultural tapestry of Sambalpur.

 

7. Your involvement in Rotary Club and other service projects is impressive. How has your experience in service organizations shaped your approach to community development?

Engaging actively in the Rotary Club and diverse service projects has profoundly influenced my perspective on community development, fostering a strong sense of responsibility and commitment. Through this experience, I’ve been able to make substantial contributions to the improvement of society. It has not only shaped my approach but also instilled a deep dedication to initiatives that positively impact communities, reflecting my ongoing commitment to the betterment of society as a whole.

 

8. Having transitioned from the construction industry to becoming a lawyer, what motivated you to make this career shift?

My shift from the construction industry to the legal profession was driven by a profound aspiration to devote myself to the welfare of the common people and champion justice through legal avenues. This transition reflects my commitment to leveraging my skills and knowledge in law to address societal issues and contribute to a more just and equitable society. It signifies a deliberate choice to use my expertise in the pursuit of fairness and the protection of individuals’ rights.

 

9. Can you share a specific instance where you faced challenges or went to jail for a cause, and how did that experience shape your commitment to public service?

Encountering obstacles while championing local youth employment through Siksha Sahayak Niyukti led to my imprisonment. This ordeal became a crucible, reinforcing my dedication to public service and underscoring the significance of advocating for righteousness. The challenges underscored the resilience needed to address societal issues. This experience serves as a testament to my unwavering commitment to fostering positive change and standing up for principles that prioritize the welfare and rights of the community.

 

10. As a Regional Public Image Coordinator for Rotary District, what initiatives are you currently involved in to promote public service and community engagement in Odisha?

In my role as the Regional Public Image Coordinator for Rotary District 3261 in Odisha, I am actively engaged in diverse initiatives focused on advancing public service and fostering community engagement. Through these endeavors, our goal is to elevate and positively impact society within the region. By promoting the values of Rotary, we strive to create meaningful and lasting contributions, contributing to the betterment of the community through dedicated efforts and impactful public service initiatives.
