25 killed in midnight fire at Goa Night Club

Late on Saturday night, a club in the village of Arpora in North Goa caught fire, killing twenty-five people and injuring six more. The Indian Express cited the police as claiming that the fire started at approximately midnight at a club called Birch By Romeo Lane, which is close to Baga beach, one of the state’s most visited tourist destinations. The fire was thought to have started from a cylinder burst. Rescue operations continued into Sunday morning after many fire engines were dispatched to the scene.

According to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, three or four casualties were visitors, but the majority of those who perished were club kitchen employees, according to The Hindu. When the chief minister arrived at the scene following the fire, he reported that three people had died from burn injuries and the others from asphyxia. Sawant posted on social media that he had mandated a magistrate’s investigation to determine what caused the fire and assign blame.

Alok Kumar, the director general of police in Goa, stated that the fire is now under control. According to Kumar, the majority of the victims were found in the kitchen, indicating that the majority of the deceased were club staff. He stated that two additional remains had been discovered on a stairway.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the relatives of the deceased will get an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh apiece from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. He stated that Rs 50,000 will be handed to the injured.
