A transsexual was detained by the State Cyber Police on suspicion of defrauding businessmen while posing as a politician’s personal assistant (PA). He is accused of defrauding merchants to the tune of Rs 1.5 lakh.Manisha alias Soumya Ranjan Pradhan, the accused transsexual, has a diploma. Eight cases have been filed in various police stations throughout the state against Soumya Ranjan.
The accused’s method of operation was revealed to OTV in a conversation with Sanjeev Satpathy, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Zone 5.Soumya Ranjan is a habitual criminal, said Satpathy. He had previously been detained on similar grounds. He used to gather the phone numbers of various businesspeople and call them, introducing himself as a politician’s assistant. Businesspeople used to hear him tell them that “the concerned politician is organising a havan for which he needs money to acquire some important commodities.” The politician’s mother would like to speak with you about this because he is still involved in many charitable projects. Following that, Soumya Ranjan started calling the businessman and introducing herself as the politician’s mother. He easily gained the trust of three businessmen in this way, and he conned them out of Rs. 1.5 lakh in the process.
“The businesspeople discovered the deception after verifying Soumya Ranjan’s legitimacy and realising they had been duped. The Cyber Police received a complaint from them, according to Satpathy. “People now adapt new concepts on WhatsApp and Facebook to deceive people,” he continued. They shouldn’t be used to easily capture people. They should always be on guard.Tusharkanti Bai and Sunil Samantray, two of Soumya Ranjan’s assistants, have reportedly also been detained by police.
